Increase clean energy supply and adjust energy consumption structure Hebei accelerates the construction of a new energy system
"The wind in Zhangbei lights up the lights of Beijing." This well-known phrase during the Beijing Winter Olympics has now been given a new connotation.
As the first national level renewable energy demonstration zone in China, Zhangjiakou City has fully empowered the Green Winter Olympics and risen to become a city of renewable energy. At present, the installed capacity of renewable energy in Zhangjiakou City has reached 29.21 million kilowatts, accounting for 83.2% of the total installed power. Through comprehensive utilization, it is expected that by 2025, the city will achieve an annual replacement of over 21 million tons of standard coal for fossil fuels, and reduce emissions of 57 million tons of carbon dioxide, 11000 tons of sulfur dioxide, and 12000 tons of nitrogen oxides.
From the capital Beijing to Xiong'an New Area, the clean electricity brought by the wind of Zhangbei is lighting up the lights of more cities.
Chasing the wind and chasing the sun, Hebei Province is promoting the coordinated development of renewable energy such as photovoltaics and wind power, vigorously promoting the transformation and upgrading of energy production structure, improving the guarantee capacity of clean energy supply, and accelerating the construction of a new energy system.
The Bodhi Island offshore wind farm is located in the sea area of Leting County, Tangshan City. The continuous white wind turbines are firmly rooted in the sea, converting sea breeze into green electricity. This is the first offshore wind power project completed and put into operation in northern China, with a total installed capacity of 300000 kilowatts. "The annual power generation is 760 million kilowatt hours, which can save about 262000 tons of standard coal." Project operation and maintenance personnel Liu Xin introduced.
Based on the advantages of wind and solar energy resources, Hebei Province is focusing on optimizing the layout of key regions, building wind and solar power generation and green hydrogen manufacturing bases in Zhangjiakou and Chengde regions, and actively promoting the layout of three million kilowatt level photovoltaic development demonstration zones in Tangshan, Cangzhou and other places that have the conditions for large-scale development.
As of the end of 2022, the total installed capacity of wind and photovoltaic power in Hebei Province was 66.52 million kilowatts; Renewable energy generated 115.39 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, accounting for approximately 35% of the total electricity generation in the province, a year-on-year increase of 6 percentage points.
Let new energy be integrated into the grid for consumption, and gradually optimize the energy consumption structure in Hebei, promoting the cleanliness and diversification of energy consumption.
In 2022, Hebei Province will add 2.1 million kilowatts of pumped storage installed capacity. In Fengning Manchu Autonomous County, Chengde City, the Yanshan Mountains are undulating, and between two huge reservoirs lies the world's largest pumped storage power station with installed capacity. "During low electricity consumption periods, the surplus wind and solar power can pump water from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir; during high electricity consumption periods, water can be discharged from the upper reservoir to generate electricity." Wu Peizhi, Deputy General Manager of Hebei Fengning Pumped Storage Co., Ltd., said that the power station can consume 8.8 billion kilowatt hours of excess electricity annually, generate approximately 6.612 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually, and reduce carbon emissions by about 1.2 million tons.
At the Energy Control Center of the Power Department of Tanggang New Area of Hebei Iron and Steel Group, various data such as blast furnace gas production, gas consumption of gas generator units, and steam consumption are displayed on the monitoring screen. "We have integrated the blast furnace gas and coke oven gas of Tangshan Iron and Steel New Area and its affiliated medium and thick plate companies, as well as Jiahua Coal Chemical Company, to achieve regional sharing and interoperability, and use all surplus gas for power generation." Chen Xiaowei, the person in charge of the Power Department of Tangshan Iron and Steel New Area, said that currently, the blast furnace gas in the factory area has achieved zero emissions, and the average proportion of purchased electricity is only 15%.
During the 13th Five Year Plan period, Hebei Province has cumulatively reduced its steel production capacity by 82.12 million tons and thermal power production capacity by 2.34 million kilowatts, resulting in a 22% decrease in energy consumption per unit of regional GDP. In 2022, coal accounted for approximately 66% of the total energy consumption in Hebei, a decrease of about 22 percentage points from 2012. The cleanliness of per capita energy consumption has become a major highlight of energy consumption in Hebei in recent years.
"Focusing on building a new energy strong province with clean, efficient, and diversified support, and focusing on building a multi energy complementary energy pattern of 'wind, light, water, fire, nuclear, storage, and hydrogen', Hebei will continue to accelerate the construction of a new energy system," said Ni Yuefeng, Secretary of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee.
